If the container sits entirely on your own driveway, parking lot or lot, you generally do not need a permit anywhere in Broward or Palm Beach. That covers the large majority of the jobs we do.
What still matters on private property is surface protection. A loaded roll-off is heavy and the rails concentrate that weight. On pavers, stamped concrete or a newer driveway, ask for boards — it takes thirty seconds and it is the difference between a happy customer and a resurfacing bill. Also check for irrigation heads, septic lids and soft ground near swales.
The moment a container occupies a public street, alley, sidewalk or swale, you are in the city’s right-of-way and nearly every municipality here requires a permit. Typically that means:
Lead time varies from same-day at a counter to about a week. If your job needs street placement, start that conversation before you book the container, not after it is on the truck.
An HOA is not a permitting authority, but it can absolutely stop your delivery at the gate. Many South Florida associations restrict delivery hours, require advance notice, limit how many days a container can sit, or require it on plywood. None of that appears in the municipal code. Ask the association before the truck rolls — it is the single most common cause of a wasted trip on residential work.
